Liquid-phase process for isoprene synthesis

Advanced technology for isoprene production based on liquid-phase catalytic synthesis from isobutylene and formaldehyde was developed and commercialized by the team of employees of SPS EUROCHIM. The innovative process avoids the high-temperature conditions for the intermediate (4,4-dimethyl-1,3-dioxane) conversion to isoprene, thus allowing to greatly reduce processing costs and energy consumption.

SPS EUROCHIM’s liquid-phase isoprene synthesis process had been successfully commercialized at OJSC Nizhnikamskneftekhim (Tatarstan, Russia) in 2006. Current production capacity is 190,000 tpy of isoprene. Product is of high (monomer) purity suitable for the manufacture of cis-polyisoprene and other synthetic rubbers and elastomers.

The main advantages of the technology are:
